Flyweight Selby narrowly beat the Olympic bronze medallist in the World Series of Boxing earlier this year and recorded a split decision victory in Belarus.

And it means the 24-year old, a world silver medallist and beaten quarter-finalist at London 2012, becomes the first British boxer to retain a European title, following his win in Ankara two years ago.

Selby's win means Great Britain return from Minsk with one gold and two bronzes, following super heavyweight Joe Joyce and light-flyweight Jack Bateson semi-final defeats.

Elsewhere, Ireland's Paddy Barnes withdrew from his light-flyweight final with a broken nose and settled for silver.

But John Joe Nevin, the Olympic bantamweight silver medallist, and middleweight Jason Quigley both won golds to cap a successful week for Irish boxing.
