Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn is hoping to have loan defender Sam Stubbs back to face Tranmere Rovers on Friday evening (7.45pm).

The Liverpool-born centre-half was forced to sit out last Saturday's 3-2 defeat at MK Dons with a swollen knee.

Stubbs, who turned 26 on Wednesday, has made 13 appearances for the Robins and earned praise from Flynn for his bravery and communication in the backline since joining from Bradford City.

"Stubbsy has a chance and hopefully he’ll be all right," Flynn said.

"There were lots of positives from last Saturday, but our defending for the three goals was not up to standard and we handed them the three points."

Arkell Jude-Boyd has reported back from international duty with St Lucia unscathed and is expected to return to the squad.

The attacking full-back or winger played for 69 minutes against Curaçao on Monday, having gone on from the bench in the 64th minute against Grenada last Friday evening.

Flynn had expressed his concern about the 21-year-old travelling to the Caribbean for the two games, having only recently returned from a six-week absence due to a hamstring injury.

"We knew they’d manage Arkell's minutes in the second game and if he'd reported back with a problem, he wouldn't have been in my good books," Flynn said.

"He was called up and he made a decision, so we had to abide by the rules, it's as simple as that. All being well, he'll be up for selection."

Tranmere are managed by former Southampton, Reading, Hull City and Charlton Athletic boss, Nigel Adkins.

They lie 19th in the table, two places and one point behind Cheltenham with two games in hand.

"I think they are in a false position," Flynn said. "On paper, they have have a very good squad littered with experience and they spent a bit of money in the summer.

"I am sure they'll pick up, but hopefully after Friday evening. We've been on a good run and we now have to make sure one defeat doesn't turn into two."

Cheltenham have drawn their last two home league games 1-1, against Bradford and Bromley and Flynn knows they have not been at their best in front of their own fans this season.

"A couple of our worst performances have been at home, against Fleetwood and in the first half against Wimbledon," he said.

"We should have won against Bromley, but they showed character and kept going with 10 men. We have to try and win some more games at home and climb the table.

"I enjoy games under the lights and it seems like a better atmosphere, so hopefully we can give them something to shout about and carry on the good things we have been doing."
