Breaking: Leicester City confirm Ruud van Nistelrooy as new manager
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been confirmed as Leicester City’s new manager on a contract until 2027.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker takes the reins at City less than a week after the club dismissed Steve Cooper. Keeping City in the Premier League will be Van Nistelrooy’s objective, with 26 fixtures remaining in the campaign.
The 48-year-old has had a decade in coaching and spent one year in charge at PSV Eindhoven in his only previous season as a senior manager. He joined Erik ten Hag’s staff at Manchester United in the summer, before enjoying an unbeaten interim spell there earlier this month that included two victories over Cooper’s City.

City felt a change of manager was needed to avoid the club slipping into the relegation zone. They are currently two places and one point outside the bottom three ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Brentford.
Van Nistelrooy will be on a watching brief at the Gtech Community Stadium while the interim coaching team are in the dugout. Ben Dawson, Andrew Hughes and Danny Alcock, who were part of Cooper's staff, have been preparing the players since Tuesday and will be taking charge for the fixture in west London.
For Van Nistelrooy, his debut as the club's manager will be next Tuesday night, when City host fellow bottom-half side West Ham at the King Power Stadium. He will hold his first press conference next Monday, where he will get the chance to set out his hopes and plans for the club.
