Brendan Rodgers in Celtic update on Cameron Carter Vickers and whether signings could face Rangers
Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the condition of Cameron Carter-Vickers ahead of the Old Firm derby.
The Celtic defender was not seen at Lennoxtown during an open part of this morning's training and that sparked fears about his availability for facing Rangers on Sunday. He had picked up an ankle injury against St Mirren last weekend but carried on playing for the duration.
But his manager insists the key cent real defender is fine ahead of the weekend and the club were simply taking precautions with him. Rodgers wanted to take care with the USA international's load after a busy start to the season and that knock, so a couple of days' rest was given.
Asked if there was an issue with Carter-Vickers, the Northern Irishman said: "No. We just gave him a wee recovery. We sometimes do that with players who are overloaded and we measure and monitor that. We can take one or two out and give them a recovery day having worked hard all week. He's fine."
Celtic hope to tie up some transfer deals today with a record-breaking deal in the works for Augsburg's Belgian midfielder Arne Engels as well as a move for Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty. There is talk they could also swoop for Luke McCowan from Celtic.
Asked if any new boys could be in line for a derby debut, Rodgers said: "Yeah, they could be. A number of players we have been looking at have been playing and they are up to speed. We will always do an MOT on the players whenever they come in just to see where they are at anyway. Most of the players we are looking at will be in a good place."
