Brendan Rodgers provides Celtic injury update on Alistair Johnston ahead of Old Firm final day
Celtic fans will breathe a sigh of relief for their Old Firm clash against Rangers on Sunday - with Brendan Rodgers stating that Alistair Johnston has avoided injury after being substituted in midweek.
The Canadian went down just before half-time against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday in what was a real sucker punch for Rodgers, and although Anthony Ralston fared well as his replacement, Johnston's quality is one of the reasons as to why Celtic's defence has only conceded four goals in 15 Scottish Premiership games this season.
With such a huge game on the horizon, Johnston's availability could be key to their trophy chances and there was naturally some sweating amongst the Parkhead faithful - but Rodgers has quashed any unrest amongst the fanbase.
Speaking ahead of the clash against the Light Blues, Rodgers said: "The squad is healthy - we expect Ali [Johnston] to be okay. He was out on the pitches this afternoon, so we should have everyone fit and available.
"[He had] an extra bit of recovery. Naturally, he's been an outstanding player for us over the course of his time here, and in particular this season. He's been instrumental in our work.
"Speaking to him earlier, and out on the pitch he was fine so we expect him to be okay."
