Brendan Rodgers refused to show criticism to his Celtic side for failing to beat Belgian champions Club Brugge in a tense Champions League clash on Wednesday evening - stating that the club are 'still on track' to reach the play-off stage in the league phase.

Having already beaten RB Leipzig and Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League this season, alongside a valiant draw away at Italian Serie A challengers Atalanta, expectations were high when Brugge - generally seen as an easier scalp than Bundesliga outfit Leipzig - came to Glasgow. A win, in hindsight, would have taken the Hoops to a minimum 13th place in the league phase of the tournament, but Cameron Carter-Vickers' own goal gave them a mountain to climb and despite Daizen Maeda's emphatic equaliser, the Hoops were unable to grab a winner.

But despite some fans showing their annoyance at the draw throughout the game, Rodgers refused to lay down and scorn his players, instead lauding them for a superb second half and despite failing to turn one point into three, the Northern Irishman reminded fans that the club are still on track to finish in the play-off stages of the competition.

Speaking on TNT Sports, the Hoops boss said:

"First half was not so good, but the second half was much better. You obviously want to win every game, but first half we were very passive in our pressing and you could see they are a good side.

"Second half, we adjusted a couple of things and we had a much better press, which allowed us to sustain attacks.

"It's a brilliant finish from Daizen [Maeda]. We were much more courageous in the second half.

"[I'm] so, so pleased with the second half. We kept going, showed determination right to the end. It's a really good point against a good side and we'll take that into our next game.

"We're still in a really good place. We're still well on track [to get into the play-off stage]."
