Businessman James Brent has praised Plymouth City Council for their decision to buy back Home Park from Plymouth Argyle and hinted his takeover could now be completed in time for the weekend clash with Swindon.
The local authority voted unanimously in favour of purchasing the ground for £1.6million on Tuesday afternoon - a proviso of Brent's proposed deal to save the debt-ridden club from liquidation. The council will lease the stadium back to Argyle for £135,000 per year, and Brent was delighted with the outcome.
He told BBC Devon: "I am very grateful to the council for this decision. There was clear political direction from the leaders of the two main parties. There are losses going to be suffered by everyone in this process but I am now asking everyone to pull together and work to get this deal completed within the next 48 hours."
Brent added: "I would like to then be able to look forward to the game against Swindon on Saturday."
