Hull Head Coach Brett Hodgson has said his side may go into the market to replace Josh Reynolds, but that could be some time away.

Reynolds left the club earlier this month after 18 months in the Super League. He joined the club from Hodgson’s former club Wests Tigers.

With injuries starting to pile up, including with Luke Gale and Adam Swift getting injured during Friday’s 4-0 defeat to Warrington, Hodgson could enter the market.

He said: “We have the players that are available next week. I think, as I say  (Josh) Griffin will be available. Cam Scott will be available, Jordan Johnstone hopefully should be okay. Maybe Josh Bowden (as well).

“But, we will look at the market. We’re trying to bring someone in who can cover the Josh Reynolds decision during the week but that might take a little bit more time.

“So yeah, we’ll we’ll work hard at making sure that we put a team out there we’re confident can win the game.

On Reynolds, Hodgson said: “We’ve felt as a club that a decision needs to be made sooner rather than later for whether or not Josh would continue taking us forward to where we had to get to.

“The expectation of him as a player is that he needs to be the best player on the field for the majority of time that he played.

“He was lacking confidence and probably lacking that class at the minute. So we’ve made that decision.”

Hodgson explains Josh Griffin omission

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Hodgson also confirmed Josh Griffin had missed out because of illness. He expects Griffin to feature against Leeds next week.

There had been some confusion as to whether or not he was suspended for the game. He picked up a one-match penalty notice for Dangerous Contact during the defeat against Catalans.

He added: “He wasn’t suspended- but he was sick earlier in the week.

“Going into this game, I named the team early. I wanted to commit to it in the week. But he will be available next week (against Leeds).”
