Hull FC Head Coach Brett Hodgson said losing Jake Connor was no excuse, as his side fell to a 19-18 at Wakefield.

The Black and Whites had led 18-6 at the break, with Connor getting two try assists for Adam Swift and Darnell McIntosh.

However, the full-back was forced off seven minutes into the second half after picking up a knee injury.

While Hodgson admitted it was a blow, he was not prepared to use it as an excuse for why they did not win the game.

“It looks like his medial but we don’t know the extent yet,”Hodgson said. “We’ll have to get scans on it.”

“We lost our way a little bit but we still had enough chances to shut the game out so it’s disappointing.

“I’m concerned about the performance but we need to learn from this and make sure we don’t put ourselves in this position again.

“I’m not a huge fan of golden point if I’m honest. I think it’s a really negative style of play when you’re just trying to go five carries for a drop goal.

“It’s a tough way to lose, it’s quite a good way to win.”

Hull lose ground on top four

Wakefield Trinity claimed their first win since April after coming from behind to beat Hull FC.

A double from Adam Swift, and another try from Darnell McIntosh saw Hull up 18-6 at the break. Matty Ashurst had scored Wakefield’s only try.

But second half tries from Corey Hall and Lee Gaskell forced Golden Point. Jacob Miller then stepped up to be the hero for the hosts.

That result had meant Hull missed the chance to close the gap on the top four. This was their second defeat in their last three games. They travel to Catalans next Saturday.
