‘At Brighton for now’: Star’s father hints at potential for ‘important transfer’ that could benefit club
Alexis Mac Allister’s father has hinted that an “important transfer” could benefit Brighton financially, as he also stated his son is at the Amex “for now”.
Following the World Cup, Mac Allister seemed a man in high demand. Indeed, the Seagulls are a good side, but it’s certainly out of the ordinary for a Brighton man to star in a World Cup triumph.
Mac Allister started all but one game – the opener – and both scored and assisted during the tournament. His assist – which came in the final – was an important one, as it stretched Argentina’s lead to 2-0, before the game ended 3-3 and they won on penalties.
Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with the star. Indeed, a player of his quality, after winning the world’s biggest tournament, could certainly make the step up to a bigger side.
That he only recently signed a new deal at the Amex until 2025 means Brighton could secure a decent fee from his sale. Especially given how important he has been to them, scoring five goals in 19 Premier League games to help the side to seventh currently.
Mac Allister’s father has recently detailed the big role he has at the club amid distractions from interested sides.
“For now, he is at Brighton. It seems to me a very good thing that he has returned from the World Cup and has not despaired about leaving, enjoying success calmly and in peace, in a team that loves him very much,” he told TyC Sports.
However, there is a sense that he feels his son could be at a bigger club. Indeed, he feels his recent contract renewal could provide an opportunity for the club to make money and for him to go onto pastures new.
“The reception he received has been the best. He is very well in the club. We all know that in July there will be possibilities to be able to leave,” he added.
“But prior to the World Cup, Alexis renewed his contract so that the club also has the opportunity of an important transfer, so that a lot can reach Brighton. It is the idea.”
Brighton will likely have a big decision to make on Mac Allister’s future come the summer. There will surely be big sides in the hunt for him and they’ll need to weigh up whether it’s worth selling.
They’ve lost some big assets in Marc Cucurella and Leandro Trossard of late. However, their own recruitment is at a level where they are replaced with quality assets very quickly. As such, the same could happen if Mac Allister were to be sold.
