Selwyn Cobbo is ready to pen a new contract with the Brisbane Broncos despite strong interest from elsewhere as he wants to repay the faith that has been shown in him.

The flying winger has been a revelation for the Broncos in the 2022 NRL campaign. He has made 20 appearances, scoring 13 tries, including a hat-trick in the round 10 win over Manly.

Cobbo also impressed when making his Origin debut for Queensland. The youngster caught the eye in the 16-10 game one win and will be looking to do the same in Perth on Sunday.

Selwyn Cobbo in demand

The 20-year-old is an immense talent and has a very bright future. It is no surprise that interest has been hot. Indeed every NRL club aside from the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm declared their interest.

Reports claimed that one club were even willing to offer him $900,000 a year. Despite all the interest, Cobbo is happy to continue his development where he is. The big deals are sure to come at some point.

Cobbo is under contract until the end of the 2023 NRL season. However he would be free to accept offers for 2024 from the 1st November this year.

That is unlikely to happen though as Cobbo is fully committed to the Broncos for now. He is set to pen a new deal that will run until the end of the 2025 season.

Reports claim that he will put pen-to-paper once the State of Origin series is done.

The Broncos are a club on the up under coach Kevin Walters it would seem. Footy boss Ben Ikin has also played a huge role in turning around the club’s fortunes.

Brisbane Broncos the only club for Cobbo

Cobbo is well aware of that and told News Corp he wants to repay the faith they have shown in him. Premierships are the goal and he believes he can win them with Brisbane.

“I don’t want to leave. It’s my plan to stay at the Broncos,” Cobbo told the publication. “I love the club. The staff have been really good for me, guys like ‘Kevvie’ and Ben Ikin have helped me off the field and with my footy.

“There’s a lot of talk (about interest in him from NRL rivals), but I love the Broncos so I don’t want to go anywhere else. Growing up, the Broncos were my team, I had a dream to play for them and right now, I‘m living my dream.

“I want to stay at the Broncos for a while yet and hopefully win some premierships for them.”
