Kevin Walters has ruled out the possibility of Cameron Munster signing for the Brisbane Broncos and believes the star playmaker will end up staying with the Melbourne Storm.

The future of Munster has been a huge talking point over the last couple of months. The Queensland State of Origin ace is under contract with the Storm until the end of 2023. But there have been suggestions he could move elsewhere for 2024.

The Dolphins are known to be keen and Munster could sign a deal with them on 1st November this year. He would then see out 2023 with Melbourne before making the move to Redcliffe for 2024.

However the Storm are also keen to tie him to a new extended deal. The problem being that Munster could have to sign on reduced terms as the Storm have spent their cash elsewhere.

Brisbane Broncos rule out Munster

The Broncos have also been mentioned as a possibility. However Walters has now ruled that out. The Broncos coach is more than happy with the options he has available to him.

“I’ve worked with Cameron in Origin, he’s a great player, but we’re really happy with what we have here,” Walters told News Corp. “Cam isn’t available for a couple of years anyway so it’s not really relevant for us. We have some good depth in the halves, Ezra Mam is doing a great job here and he is the future.”

Rumours are rife suggesting that Munster will not be willing to take a pay cut to stay with the Storm. It has been suggested that he would have to accept a deal in the region of $750,00 a year. He currently earns a reported $1.1million.

That would be some drop considering Munster is at the top of his game right now. After making changes to his off-field lifestyle Munster’s game has risen to another level in 2022. He is arguably the best player in the comp.

Munster tipped to stay with Storm

The Dolphins would be in a position to offer him the same money he earns now. But it could be a while before Wayne Bennett’s men are pushing for silverware. Munster will have a decision to make but Walters thinks he will stay where he is.

“Munster is in the top two or three players in the game at his best, so when a guy like him becomes available, I’m sure most clubs would want to have a crack at him,” Walters added. “But personally I think all the noise around Cam has died down, I believe he will stay at the Storm.”
