Cheltenham Town are having a look at Bristol City midfield prospect Tommy Backwell.

The 21-year-old took part in an 11 v 11 training match on Tuesday morning, held at Bishop's Cleeve's Kayte Lane ground.

He was one of two trialists involved, as well as new loan signing from Brentford Val Adedokun.

Backwell signed a professional contract with City in May 2022, agreeing a one-year extension last summer.

He has been with the Ashton Gate club since the age of 15 after playing youth football at Mangotsfield United and Southampton.

Backwell has senior experience in non-league football from youth loans with Hallen and Yate Town, along with a brief spell at National League South club Bath City.

As well as Adedokun, Cheltenham have brought in right-back Darragh Power from Waterford on an 18-month deal and forward Ashley Hay on loan from Brentford until the end of the season since the transfer window opened.
