Bristol City player ratings v Burnley: Midfielders stand out as forwards rue wasted chances

Max O'Leary - 6

While the City stopper would have been disappointed that his save to deny Josh Brownhill early on landed at the feet of Jaidon Anthony, he more than made up for that in the second half. How he got down to deny Luca Koleosho, we're not quite sure, but it was an excellent stop. His kicking still left a bit to be desired, however.

Zak Vyner - 6

Vyner was always going to be in for a tough afternoon given Burnley's embarrasment of attacking riches, but he did well to keep them quiet for much of the game. Produced a couple of big blocks in the second half as the visitors looked to double their lead.

Luke McNally - 5

The former Burnley man started on the left of City's back three and didn't look particularly comfortable in or out of possession. Picked up a yellow with a heavy and unnecessary challenge on Hannibal in the first half which left him walking a tightrope, but he improved as the game wore on.

Rob Dickie - 6

Back in the side after he missed the win over Norwich City through suspension. Marshalled the backline well in the middle of the central defensive three with much of the game being played in front of him. Big tackle in the second to prevent a certain goal for the away side.

George Earthy (off for Yu Hirakawa 45') - 6

Earthy kept his place at right-back having impressed before the international break. Although the West Ham loanee didn't do too much wrong, he was rather quiet in the first half before being replaced by Yu Hirakawa at half-time.

Jason Knight - 7

The City skipper was unfortunate to not get himself on the scoresheet as he had a couple of good chances in the first half. Would have hoped to have got his header on frame in the opening exchanges, but was as important as ever both in and out of possession.

Marcus McGuane - 6

As he had done throughout his brief City career, the midfielder was combative in the middle of the park. Battled away in and out of possession despite being on the receiving end of one or two heavy challenges. Kept possession well when he had the ball.

Haydon Roberts (off for Cam Pring 66') - 5

Preferred at left wing back to Cam Pring and justified that selection in the opening exchanges. Ventured forward well and provided a threat with his delivery into the area, but didn't link up quite as well with Anis Mehmeti as he did at Norwich.

Max Bird (off for Fally Mayulu 88') - 5

While there were one or two of his silky touches on show, Bird wasn't quite at his best with a few mistimed passes and a couple of loose pieces of skill. Still provided a threat in that number 10 position but not to the level fans have come to expect. Not his best showing but conditions certainly didn't help.

Anis Mehmeti (off for Scott Twine 66') - 5

While the winger saw plenty of the ball, he was unable to make that possession count. Saw an early shot deflected wide and was unlucky not to score, but took far too long on the ball on numerous occasions and looked nothing like the player fans saw at Norwich. He needs to add that consistency to his game to reach the next level.

Nahki Wells (off for Sinclair Armstrong 66') - 6

Wells was coming into this one in excellent form, but the Bermudian didn't have many chances to add to his goal tally this afternoon. A majority of his touches came with his back to goal before he was replaced midway through the second period.

Substitutions:

Yu Hirakawa - 6

Added a more attacking threat down the right flank, but simply had to score when one-on-one with Trafford.

Cam Pring - 6

His energy and pace caused problems as it always does.

Sinclair Armstrong - 5

Didn't have much to work with but added a presence up top.

Scott Twine - 6

Back from injury and added plenty down the left-flank even if he couldn't produce that all-important chance.

Fally Mayulu - N/A

Came on late.
