Britain’s Got Talent revealed its first finalists following the opening of its live week.

Following a lengthy audition process, the live semi-finals got underway at the Hammersmith Apollo tonight (May 29), with eight contestants battling it out for a place in Sunday’s (June 4) grand final.

There was a variety of styles on offer, ranging from singing to dancing, parkour to magic – and a virtuoso display of flatulence.

The level of competition was high throughout, with the judges – Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli – commending the acts for their displays even after giving Ichikawa Koikuchi four red crosses.

After a public vote, it was revealed that Amy Lou, Musa Motha and Abi Carter-Simpson placed in the top three, with Musa securing passage to the final after garnering the most votes.

The judges were then left to pick between Amy and Abi, with the result ending in a tie after each act secured two votes from the judges. As a result of the deadlock, the result fell back to the public vote, with Amy Lou progressing to the final alongside Musa.

The other contestants who exited the competition were Ichikawa Koikuchi, United 2 Dance, Gamal John, Parkour Collective and Enzo Weyne.

Elsewhere in the live show, host Ant McPartlin had an embarrassing moment as he slipped when entering the stage at the beginning of the show.

After being helped up by Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, Ant remarked that he might have “wet himself and farted”, with co-host Dec finding great pleasure in watching the incident in slow-motion later in the show.

The remainder of the live semi-finals will air throughout the week, with the final set to take place on Sunday as the contestants seek to earn a performance at the Royal Variety Show.

Britain's Got Talent airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
