Britney Spears has asked a court not to allow her father to regain control of her life and is considering ending her conservatorship for good.

Jamie Spears stepped down as her conservator last year after 11 years in charge of the singer’s care and finances. Her conservatorship is now in the hands of her long-term “care manager” Jodi Montgomery.

Britney’s lawyer Samuel Ingham has now filed documents, obtained by The Blast, stating: “Britney is strongly opposed to having James return as conservator of her person. Rather, she strongly prefers to have Ms. Montgomery continue in that role as has done for nearly a year."

And the legal papers reveal the 38-year-old singer is even considering ending her conservatorship completely.

The documents continue: “Without in any way waiving her right to seek termination of this conservatorship in the future, Britney would like Ms. Montgomery's appointment as conservator of her person to be made permanent."

The court documents also add that Spears’s “stated desire” is not to be performing again any time soon.

Adding: “We are now at a point where the conservatorship must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes."

The filing was made a day before a status hearing on the arrangement in court, which will be closed to the public and the media.

Spears's lawyer added they expect her father to “aggressively contest” Britney’s request and suggests they keep a lawyer on hand with expertise in complex legal rights.

Conservatorship is when a guardian or protector is appointed by a court to manage the life of someone due to physical or mental limitations.

Britney – who entered the spotlight at the age of 11 on Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club – suffered from the pressures of fame and work and had a very public breakdown in 2007.

The I’m A Slave 4 U singer was put into her father’s care in 2008 and went on to revive her career, appearing as a judge on the American version of The X Factor, performing several hit world tours and starring in a successful Las Vegas residency.

However, she pulled out of a second Las Vegas run due to stress and has not performed since October 2018.

There has been an ongoing campaign by some fans to “Free Britney” from her conservatorship. The Toxic singer has rarely spoken about the arrangement in public.

She said the conservatorship "rescued her from a collapse, exploitation by predatory individuals and financial ruin" and made her "able to regain her position as a world-class entertainer".

Britney is mother to two sons, Sean Preston, 14, and Jayden James, 13, who she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline. He has custody of the boys and she is allowed frequent visits.
