Former team-mate Wes Brown has told Cristiano Ronaldo he will “always be a legend” at Man Utd after he completed a move to Al-Nassr.
The Portugal international left the Red Devils at the end of November by mutual agreement after Ronaldo gave a controversial interview to Piers Morgan, in which he criticised the club, manager, senior executives, former players and more.
Reports in the summer claimed that he wanted to leave Man Utd in the search for Champions League football as he still wanted to play at the very top level.
However, seemingly due to a lack of interest from top clubs in Europe, Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr announced yesterday that they had completed the signing of Ronaldo until 2025.
And Brown says he can’t blame his former Man Utd team-mate for taking the “crazy money” on offer in Saudi Arabia and insists he will “always be a legend” at Old Trafford.
Brown told The Metro: “Ultimately, he tried to go in the summer and there was nothing really here for him.
“I’m not sure what clubs [were in] but the clubs he wanted to come in just didn’t.
“Ultimately, it is crazy money for him. It will be a bit different for him, it will be a different experience for him.
“But regardless, he is a legend of game and whatever people say, as a Manchester United fan, he will always be a legend at the club.
“We achieved so much when he was there, we have to wish him the best. There isn’t long left now, he just needs to enjoy it and play as much as we can.
“It is a bit different for him but it also depends on what the family all agree on and what they all agree on too.”
Another former Man Utd defender, Paul Parker, thinks the Red Devils missed a trick when they failed to sign new Liverpool star Cody Gakpo.
Parker told BonusCodeBets: “Man United are very reactive instead of being proactive. Man United are reactive in the way that the moment it starts raining they will wait to take the umbrella up and they will wait ten minutes and then take the umbrella up, but now they are wet as hell.
“Liverpool are the kind of club that will look out of the window and see some dark clouds outside and will take the umbrella up before it starts raining.
“That’s the difference between the clubs and Cody Gakpo probably chose Liverpool because Man United was too slow even though they are a bigger club than Liverpool and more attractive.”
