Bruno Fernandes penalty questioned by Aston Villa after Jon Moss and VAR award Manchester United spot-kick
Bruno Fernandes scoring from the penalty spot is becoming a regular occurrence for Manchester United - but the nature of the midfielder's goal against Aston Villa was controversial to say the least.
Midway through the first half of Thursday night's Premier League clash at Villa Park, Fernandes won a penalty following a clash with Villa's Ezri Konsa.
The Portugal midfielder performed a quick turn when receiving the ball and appeared to be caught from behind, but Villa were incensed by referee Jon Moss' decision.
The decision went to a VAR review, and though replays appeared to show Fernandes catching Konsa with his trailing leg first, Moss' penalty call stood - and Fernandes duly dispatched the spot-kick.

Should Manchester United have been awarded the penalty though?

The penalty was United's 18th in all competitions this season, one away from the record of 14 spot-kicks in a single Premier League season.
Villa's official Twitter account appeared to question the decision soon after, tweeting a picture of Fernandes catching Konsa's leg with an emoji of a questionable face.

Villa's frustration was understandable given their relegation fears, while United added another before half-time as Mason Greenwood struck another fine goal.
