Bruno Guimaraes has been a revelation since heading to the Premier League. The Brazilian star joined Newcastle United from Lyon in January 2022 and quickly established himself as one of the league's best midfielders.

It's no surprise that his performances have prompted links with the league's biggest clubs. Liverpool is among those linked as FSG looks to potentially add more options in midfield for new manager Arne Slot.

Spanish publication AS reported in January that Liverpool was considering a move for Guimaraes, while The Telegraph recently stated Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City also consider him a summer target. Newcastle's financial situation adds to uncertainty surrounding his future.

The club is keen to spend but profit and sustainability rules mean they might have to sell in order to do so without facing punishment. Guimaraes also has a £100million ($123.2m) release clause in his contract, which manager Eddie Howe revealed expires on June 30, meaning any club that makes a move at that price would have to factor him into this year's accounts.

Guimaraes himself has now addressed his future, admitting it is "very nice" to be linked to big clubs such as Liverpool. He indicated he is happy at Newcastle - but suggested that there is some uncertainty over his future as he declared he will "see what happens" in the coming weeks.

"Look, my future, to be honest, is in God's hands," he told Brazilian media (per the Liverpool Echo).

"I have a contract with Newcastle, I'm very happy, as I said, I know how much they like me, I know everything I've been doing for the club. In short, I have a contract, I'm happy.

"I don't know what can happen, we know everything about Financial Fair Play, but what I can say is that I feel happy. It's obviously very nice to be associated with big clubs; it indicates that I'm performing well in my role, but it doesn't concern me in the slightest, as I mentioned, I'm content where I am.

"I'm very happy, so let's see what the future holds. I'm not in any hurry, I'm happy, and it's up to God, let's see what happens."

Speaking about the future of the midfielder and his release clause, Howe said: “Having that was well planned and structured by the club, in a sense that there is a finish point,” Howe replied, when asked if it was a smart move that Guimaraes’ clause is due to expire on June 30. “We don’t want the constant speculation, I don’t think that’s healthy for the player or for us.

“When it’s something you don’t necessarily have control over, I don’t tend to worry about that,” Howe said, when asked about speculation. “I think it goes without saying what my thoughts on the Bruno situation are. We want to keep him, we want to build our team around him and he’s an integral part of what we are doing.

“His form has been very good. He seems very happy and settled. He will be thinking about a busy summer ahead and where we can hopefully take the team. He is a big part of that. We are not in control of that, so we shall see.”
