Arne Slot's term at Liverpool is yet to officially begin, but that hasn't stopped the transfer rumour mill from going into overdrive.

After a third-place finish in the Premier League last term, Slot arrives at Anfield hoping to close the gap on Arsenal and Manchester City, who fought for the title until the final day of the season.

For Liverpool, Slot's reign as head coach will officially begin on Saturday, while Liverpool's players are not due back for the start of pre-season training unit the start of July. In the meantime, the ECHO has taken a look at the latest news and rumours surrounding the Reds in the off-season.

Bruno Guimaraes transfer truth revealed

Bruno Guimaraes will be available to leave Newcastle United if his £100m release clause is triggered before the end of June.

The 26-year-old Brazil international has been a revelation since signing for the Magpies from Lyon in January 2022. In total, his 86 appearances in the Premier League have returned 16 goals and 14 assists, and last season, he helped the Magpies end their 20-year exile from the Champions League.

As a result, Guimaraes has been linked with moves to Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal this summer, and the midfielder has a release clause inked in his contract until the end of next month.

But could the Brazilian really end up at Anfield this summer?

The ECHO says: In truth, it's unlikely.

After spending over £100m on four midfielders last summer as Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch all made the move to Anfield, it's fair to say that Liverpool's priorities remain elsewhere in this summer's transfer window.

Of course, the Reds could still do with an out-and-out defensive midfielder, having not adequately replaced Fabinho following his departure to the Saudi Pro League last summer.

But the truth is that no one will truly know Liverpool's intentions in the transfer window until Slot has had time to assess his squad in the early weeks of July, at which point Newcastle will have free rein on what they demand for Guimaraes.

For that reason, this one feels unlikely this summer.

Jarell Quansah forced to change summer plans after senior England call-up

Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has revealed he was forced to cancel a holiday with his friends after his shock call-up to England's provisional squad for this summer's European Championships.

The 21-year-old defender has enjoyed a stellar breakout season at Anfield and by the end of Jurgen Klopp's time at the helm, he had displaced Ibrahima Konate as Virgil van Dijk's first-choice partner.

However, after arriving in Darlington for the Three Lions' camp for this next week's friendly at St James' Park, Quansah revealed he had been forced to cancel a pre-planned summer break with his mates.

The ECHO says: Clearly, Quansah was as surprised as the rest of us by his first call-up to the England senior squad.

But, in truth, few English defenders have had better seasons than the Warrington-born defender, who this time last year was on loan at Bristol Rovers in League One.

Quansah could make his England debut against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Monday, and although the weather is unlikely to compare to the beach clubs of Marbella and Ibiza, there is surely no place the defender would rather spend his off-season.
