Is the Bounty bar always the last one left in your chocolate box?
If this sounds like you - then you’re not alone. A new survey has revealed that the Bounty is the most unloved of all the Celebrations chocolates, with 52 per cent of Brits declaring it most unwanted.
The poll of 2,000 British adults commissioned by Mars Wrigley showed Bounty haters to be most common among 18 to 24-year-olds – with 44 per cent of them choosing it last. For this group, the coconut treat gets about as much love as a Brussels sprout, which the survey predictably found is disliked by 43 per cent of Brits.
Malteser Teasers, it seems, bring all the festive joy, ranking as the first choice for nearly two-thirds (63%) of the poll’s chocolate lovers.
Perhaps most remarkable of all is the plight of the unfortunate sweets left at the bottom of the tub. It has emerged that 32 per cent of people simply throw them in the bin.
The findings have prompted the announcement of a new campaign to provide amnesty for the beleaguered Bounty. For the first time ever, people can return their unwanted Bounty bars to the manufacturer via three Co-op locations - London, Glasgow, and Manchester - and get them swapped for Maltesers Teasers in January.
The Bounty Return scheme will be launched in the new Celebrations Christmas advert titled The Lonely Bounty. Inspired by classic movies Love Actually and Bridget Jones's Diary, the ad shows Bounty finally discovering his true love – the Brussels sprout.
Mars Wrigley's spokeswoman, Cemre Cudal, said: "And if after all that, you still can't bring yourself to love a Bounty this Christmas, we'll take them back as part of our Bounty Return Scheme in January. Because no Bounty should be left alone at the bottom of a Celebrations tub!"
