Bryce Harper leaves game after taking 97 mph fastball to his face: 'Everything feels good'

Bryce Harper walked off on his own Wednesday after taking a 97 mph fastball off his face.

The Philadelphia Phillies slugger led off the top of the sixth inning against St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Génesis Cabrera. The first pitch was up and in, hitting Harper squarely in his face. Harper fell to the ground before quickly getting to his feet on his own.

He walked off the field and did not return to the game.

The Phillies didn't provide an immediate update on his health status after their 5-3 win. Harper did, though, take to Instagram and seemed fine.

“Everything feels good. Everything came back good. CT [scan], all that kind of stuff,” he said in the video. “Face is still there, so we’re all good.”

Joe Girardi furious after another HBP on next pitch

The HBP didn't conclude the sixth-inning drama. Didi Gregorious took the plate after Harper's exit. Cabrera's next pitch — a 95 mph fastball — hit Gregorius in the ribs. The second consecutive HBP drew Phillies manager Joe Girardi from the dugout to check on Gregorius.

When umpires warned both teams for Cabrera's lack of control, Giraridi had seen enough. He lit into home plate umpire Chris Segal, who promptly ejected him. After having his say with the umpiring crew, Girardi lowered his mask and shared some choice words with Cabrera before exiting the game.

Cabrera, meanwhile, was not ejected. He lasted only one more batter. Andrew McCutchen's RBI single in the game's next at-bat gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead and ended Cabrera's night.
