Bryson DeChambeau 'to test how I am feeling' at PGA Championship after wrist surgery

Bryson DeChambeau is going to give it a shot.

DeChambeau announced on Monday that he was traveling to Southern Hills Country Club and plans to “test how I’m feeling over these next couple of days” ahead of the PGA Championship. While he hasn’t played since undergoing wrist surgery right after the Masters, he didn’t rule this week out completely.

DeChambeau hasn’t played much this season, and it’s been a struggle when he has. He missed the cut at The Masters after going 12-over through 36 holes, which marked his third missed cut in four starts. His best finish this season was a T25 finish at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January, though that field was just 38 players deep.

DeChambeau then underwent surgery on his left hand days after The Masters, and he hasn’t played since. He did post an update on Twitter on Saturday of him hitting a driver at his home, which a monitor showed him reaching a ball speed of more than 190 mph and hitting a drive that would have carried 342 yards.

If DeChambeau withdraws from the PGA Championship, he’ll be replaced by Joel Dahmen.

DeChambeau, 28, has eight career wins on Tour, most recently last season’s rescheduled U.S. Open and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He’s fallen to No. 22 in the Official World Golf Rankings, which is his lowest ranking since the 2018 season. DeChambeau is listed at +6,600 to win the PGA Championship on BetMGM, which is in line with Max Homa and Tiger Woods and well behind favorites Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler.
