BT Sport pundit Michael Owen has backed Arsenal to return to winning ways at the hands of Premier League strugglers Middlesbrough, despite the poor away form the Gunners' have shown recently.
In their last match against Crystal Palace on Monday, Arsenal were as poor as anyone has ever seen them and were dispatched comfortably 3-0 by the improving Eagles.
This result cranked up the pressure on manager Arsene Wenger who has divided the Arsenal fanbase and caused disillusion around the club.
But according to Owen in his BetVictor column , he reckons Arsenal will get back to winning ways and ease the pressure on Wenger in the process:
“You have to go back to December 1984 for the last time Arsenal lost five successive away league games and they must bounce back after what was an embarrassing defeat at Palace on Monday,” Owen said.
“Boro need to win to have any realistic chance of maintaining their PL status but they continue to struggle in front of goal and I expect a positive reaction from the Gunners after the criticism they so richly deserved at Selhurst Park.”
Arsenal have lost their last four away games against Chelsea, West Brom, Liverpool and Palace respectively.
However, Middlesbrough are also desperate for the points to stave off relegation this season and i n fact Boro have conceded less goals than Arsenal this season.
An away victory at the Riverside therefore is easier said than done.
