The Buccaneers will be coming to a small screen near you this summer.
Tampa Bay has been chosen to be on this season of the HBO series "Hard Knocks," Florida Football Insiders reported. The official announcement is expected Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
“I know we have some great personalities on our team starting withJameis (Winston), Gerald (McCoy), the list goes on and on, (linebacker) Kwon (Alexander),I think the fans would get an inside look at how our team really is,’’general manager Jason Licht said this week when asked about the possibility of being chosen.
“I think the fans would get a real inside look at how we operate, how the players are. In terms of being a distraction, I think we’re wired to where we would be able to minimize that.’’
The Buccaneers have been vocal about wanting to be featured on the showandmeetthe criteria, which includes nothaving a first-year coach, not being in the playoffs in the past two yearsand not having appeared on the show in the past 10 years.
McCoy, a starting defensive tackle, said Monday if the team is chosen, he expects the Bucsnot to worry about the cameras following them around training camp and for players to be "professionals."
“If they pick us, let’s be professionals about it and move forward,’’ McCoy said. “We’ve still got a season to prepare for, whether there’s a camera watching or not.We play the gameson Sundayswith cameras watching, so if you think you can’t go out to practice and practice with a camera on you, then you’re probably in the wrong profession. If we get picked, it is what it is,let’s be professionals and go to work.’’
"Hard Knocks" will premiere Aug. 8, at the start of the preseason.
