Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon is a player that has aged like a fine wine. He will go down as the finest stopper of his generation, no other keeper has achieved such consistency and longevity at the pinnacle of the game.
At 39-years-old the Juventus keeper shows no sign of stopping, and will have added motivation to continue now, as he closes in on the all-time Champions League clean sheet record.

As reported by 101 Great Goals, the Italian is on 46 clean sheets. Only Petr Cech (47), Edwin Van Der Sar (50) and Iker Casillas (56) have achieved more. Behind a Juventus defence as water tight as Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, eight more clean sheets is a very attainable goal.
For now, Buffon will be focused on winning the one title he has yet to claim, the Champions League. Juventus are now favourites to claim the trophy after a formidable performance to brush aside Barcelona in the Quarter-Final.

Juventus, who were beaten finalists by Barcelona in 2015, will now fancy their chances to go all the way.
With Argentinian duo Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain up top, the Old Lady has now added some cutting edge to what has always been a rock solid defensive foundation.
It will be a sad day when Buffon retires, but thankfully we have his real life football manager regen to be excited about.
