Bumper price tag emerges as Nottingham Forest 'make checks' on transfer target
Nottingham Forest are said to have stepped up their interest in Brazil forward Igor Jesus as the January transfer window approaches.
The 23-year-old reportedly has a number of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on him, with the Reds among them. However, it seems it would take a significant sum to prise him away from Botafogo.
Forest were first linked with Jesus last month as he made his debut for his national team. Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion were also credited with eyeing him up at the time.
According to TBR Football, the Reds have followed that up by “making checks” on the attacker in recent days. Newcastle are said to have done the same.
Competition for the Brazilian is only increasing, however, despite suggestions of a £30 million price tag having now been placed on his head. Fulham and West Ham United have both been added to the list of Jesus’ admirers, with the latter “lodging an enquiry” and the Cottagers making checks of their own.
Forest already have a strong Brazilian contingent at the City Ground as they have Danilo, Carlos Miguel, Morato and Murillo on the books. The latter is currently on duty alongside Jesus in the Brazil squad, having been called up for his country for the first time.
Strengthening head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s resources at the top end of the pitch is likely to be on the agenda for the Reds in January. They tried to sign a striker in the summer but did not manage to get a deal over the line before the August 30 deadline.
