Mario Gomez bagged a brace for Bayern Munich

Gomez is now poised to sign a four-year contract with the Italian club to complete his 20 million euro transfer.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge met Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle on Monday to clinch the deal, which will be formalised in the coming days.

“It was the desire of Mario Gomez to leave Bayern Munich to move to Florence,” said Rummenigge. “We have now complied with his wish.

“I would like to thank him for his performances he has had for Bayern. Thank you. On behalf of Bayern I wish him luck and success in Florence.”

Gomez joined Bayern from Stuttgart for a then German transfer record of around 30 million euros in the summer of 2009.

The Germany international scored 112 goals in 172 games for Bayern, winning two Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and last season’s Champions League.

He said of leaving Bayern for Italy: “It’s hard to leave the best club in the world. I’m leaving with mixed feelings. “I love football and only want to play. I’m deeply grateful for the last four years. The club made much possible for me since 2009. “It was obvious that I would not play for another club in the Bundesliga. The options have been Spain and Italy. “Since having contact with Florenz, I feel good about it. I am totally looking forward to this new challenge.”
