Terry Butcher insists the manner of Inverness's 2-1 triumph over Aberdeen was just as pleasing as the three points gained by his side in the Highland capital.

Two goals in a five-minute second-half spell from on-loan Wigan defender Roman Golobart and forward Gregory Tade had Inverness 2-0 in front and seemingly cruising towards the win. Aberdeen substitute Rory Fallon halved the deficit with 14 minutes left to make it a nervy finish for Caley Thistle.

But Inverness held on to claim their first home success since overcoming St Mirren at the beginning of October, much to the delight of manager Butcher. He said: "It was a good win, but also the manner of the win was satisfying. We deserved it."

He added: "There was a great determination to get the victory and I was really pleased for the players.

"We've not had our problems to seek this week in the build-up to the game.

"Ross Tokely was out with a calf injury, Andrew Shinnie was injured as well, and both Greg Tansey and Jonny Hayes were struggling with illness.

"However, I thought the attitude of the players was tremendous and they showed a great desire."

Aberdeen saw the gap between themselves and Caley Thistle reduced to two points following their loss in Inverness and boss Craig Brown was once again forced to apologise to a large travelling support for a lacklustre display.

He said: "Not for the first time, I have to make an apology to the fans and that really annoys me.

"It's probably wearing a little thin these apologies, but I felt this was a game that was there to be won. These fans have come a long way and now they have to go all the way home having been disappointed."
