Caio Magalhaes Sentenced for Blood-Spitting Incident
UFC fighter Caio Magalhaes went before the Nevada Athletic Commission on Thursday to learn his sentencing for a blood-spitting incident at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale on July 12 in Las Vegas.
The incident occurred after Magalhaes was submitted by Josh Samman in the first round of their fight. After forcing Magalhaes to tap, Samman attempted to shake hands, but was instead met by Magalhaes spitting blood at him.

The incident landed Magalhaes before the Nevada Athletic Commission on Thursday. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt did not try to defend his action, and was extremely apologetic during the hearing.
“What I did does not reflect who I am as a fighter or a person. It was a stupid and unjustifiable act,” said Magalhaes. “I don’t want to justify what I did, I only want to apologize.”
The commissioners seemed to believe Magalhaes was remorseful, considering it as they handed down his sentence.
The commission voted unanimously to suspend Magalhaes for six months, retroactive to the date of the fight, and sentenced him to 40 hours of community service teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
