Calf rescued after M40 disruption near Oxford

A calf was rescued from the M40 after it broke loose and caused disruption to the motorway.

The baby cow became stuck on the fencing between junction 7 and 6 as Highways England attended to slow or stop the traffic while it was rescued.

The calf has been returned to the farmer and is safe.

At around 1:30 pm Oxon Travel, who provide travel and transport updates and information for Oxfordshire Council, said: "We have reports of an animal loose on the M40 between junction 7 and junction 6.

"Thames Valley Police roads policing are on scene. Please proceed with caution both North and Southbound and expect delays"

An update 25 minutes later read: "The earlier reported loose animal on the M40 between junction 7 and junction 6 has now been recaptured and traffic is moving freely".
