For several months, Lewis Capaldi and Ed Sheeran have supposedly been embroiled in a light-hearted dispute.

The ever-joking Capaldi has publicly poked fun at the English singer numerous times on TV and social media, but during a performance at the BBC's Radio 1 Big Weekend Festival, he took things to another level.

Capaldi shot to prominence in 2019 with the release of the hit song "Someone You Loved". In the years that followed, he and Ed Sheeran reportedly grew close. The two British singer-songwriters even collaborated on the song "Pointless," which appears on Capaldi’s most recent album Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.

With this in mind, where has this supposed ‘feud’ come from and what have the stars said about it?

What is this supposed ‘feud’ all about?

The two music stars have been jokingly at war for some time. The situation came to light when Capaldi made an appearance on the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show in September 2022 and told a story about Sheeran.

Here, Capaldi described how he went to see a house that the singer had recommended he buy only to learn that the place had a strong cigarette and foot odour that he couldn't get rid of - after he had already closed the sale.

Capaldi bought it with the idea that the odours could be eliminated. He admitted, "I was an eager beaver," but later came to believe Sheeran had "put a plague on my life.”

The housewarming gift

According to Sheeran, he did offer to fix the problem. "If it does make him feel better, I will buy the house off him."

The singer also disclosed that as a housewarming present, he handed Capaldi a life-size vinyl dinosaur. In order to open the gift however, Capaldi had to borrow a forklift in town, return with it after removing it, only to open it up and discover that it was a gigantic stegosaurus.

Earlier this year Capaldi went back on Duran and said: “I saw Ed on your show saying he was gonna buy it off me, right? I’ve been chasing that man on email — nothing. I haven’t seen him since.”

“That house is now a shell. I’ve wrecked it out,” Capaldi said. “Right now, it is squalor.”

Still blaming Sheeran for the decision. “Ed has still burdened my life to an incredible degree,” the singer added.

X-rated lyrics to Sheeran’s song

Not long after the housewarming incident, Capaldi posted an X-rated verse to a TikTok video of Sheeran playing the guitar this spring.

The video opens with Capaldi saying to the camera: “Okay right, Lewis Capaldi, Ed Sheeran here we go.”

Over the original video of Sheeran strumming his guitar, Capaldi then sings lines such as, "Every now and then I think about your p---y lips."

He then said in his closing statement: "I do dumb sh-- when I'm mad, sorry that I killed your dad, but can you still call me back."

What is the latest and what has Lewis Capaldi said?

Capaldi was playing in his native Scotland over the weekend, when he made the comment, “Ed is not here today. Yeah…f*** him!” He then urged the crowd to join him in a chant of, “F*** you, Ed!”

Sheeran afterwards added a “clap-back” to a video he had shared of the incident on Instagram.

What has Ed Sheeran said?

Sheeran jokingly pretended to be sorry as he remarked, “I thought we were friends Lewis.”

“I thought we were friends. You fucking c–.”  The statement’s ending was bleeped out.

Sheeran responded to the comment on his Instagram feed with the description, “I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved” nodding to one of Capaldi’s biggest hits, “Someone You Loved.”
