Cameron Carter-Vickers is a huge injury doubt for Celtic matches against St Johnstone and Borussia Dortmund.

The centre-back sat out of yesterday's Premier Sports Cup comeback win over Falkirk after missing training last week and the Hoops had been nursing him through recent weeks, also missing training in the lead up to the derby win over Rangers. Manager Brendan Rodgers has now confirmed he has a metatarsal problem.

Carter-Vickers is to be assessed later this week ahead of a trio of fixtures coming up before the international break. First of those is an away league game against the Saints but following that is a trip to Germany to take on the Bundesliga giants, a game in which they could really do with their defensive lynchpin.

Rodgers said yesterday: “Cam has been suffering a wee bit with his metatarsal, below his big toe. We gave it a little bit of a period earlier on, a few weeks back, and he was okay.

“He's got a little bit sore, obviously playing back-to-back games, which is why we've given him today free. So, we'll just assess that and see how that is later in the week."

In better news, Alistair Johnston is expected to train this week after having an injection in his back and missing the Falkirk win.

“Ali will be fine," Rodgers added. "Again, he's had a bit of an issue around his back, so he was having an injection, and of course that then meant he would miss the game. But he'll train Tuesday and Wednesday and be absolutely fine.”
