Canada's COVID-19 cases: Hospitalizations on the rise in Ontario, Quebec
On Tuesday, Quebec reported 35 more people who required hospitalization due to COVID-19, compared to the day before. This brings the total number of people who are hospitalized to 274, including 41 in intensive care.
Hospitalizations are also up in Ontario, where nine more people were admitted with COVID-19, bringing the total number to 137. Thirty people are in the ICU, with 16 on ventilators.
Prince Edward Island also reported a new case of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to two.

Quebec reports nearly 800 new cases
There are 799 newly-reported cases of COVID-19 in Quebec, as well as seven deaths (only two of which occurred in the preceding 24 hour period). Hospitalizations have risen to 274, including four more in intensive care for a total of 41. There are 5,522 active cases in the province.
Montreal and Quebec City saw the highest number of new cases. The two regions have also been upgraded to Zone Red, the highest alert level in the province, and will be seeing closures of bars and nightclubs for 28 days as well as other measures intended to curb the recent increase in cases.
The province is urging people between the ages of 18 and 34 to get tested, due to that age group disproportionately testing high for COVID-19. They will also be targeted in a new ad campaign rolling out across the province, encouraging people under the age of 35 to pick up their phones when Public Health calls them.
Quebec officials are recommending that people avoid public gatherings of any kind in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
Ontario sees four more deaths related to virus
A total of 2,844 people who had COVID-19 have died in the province, including four in the most recent 24-hour reporting period. However CBC estimates the death toll related to the virus in the province to be closer to 2,880 (note: Yahoo Canada uses the official numbers provided by the provinces for all updates).
Five-hundred and fifty-four new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday, including 251 in Toronto, 106 in Ottawa, 79 in Peel Region and 43 in York Region. According to Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott, 62 per cent of all new cases are people under the age of 40. 323 more cases were marked as resolved.
There were 64 new cases reported that are related to schools, including at least 37 students. Currently, 250 of Ontario’s 4,828 public schools are reporting cases of COVID-19.
The province completed 38,375 tests on Monday, down slightly from Ontario’s total current testing capacity at 40,000.
Updates from the rest of Canada
Prince Edward Island identified one new case of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The latest case is a man in his 20s from P.E.I. who travelled outside of the province for work. Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Heather Morrison says that all of P.E.I.’s 59 cases have been related to travel. There are currently two active cases on the island.
Nova Scotia has reported its seventh day without any new cases of COVID-19, with one case still active in the province. New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador have not reported any changes to their current number of cases.
There are 34 new cases of COVID-19 that have been identified in Manitoba, bringing the total number of cases to 1,953, and the number of active cases to 606. Officials also announced today that an outbreak at Brandon Regional Hospital is now over, returning to a Yellow threat level on Tuesday. The hospital was declared a Red threat level in August.
Seven new cases were identified in Saskatchewan, for a total of 138 active cases and 1,899 cases overall. Six of the new cases were in Regina, while the seventh was in the central east region. Saskatoon remains the region with the most active cases, as 68 cases are considered active in the area. Officials are continuing to monitor the Yorkton region after an outbreak was declared at Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton Regional High School and Pumphouse Athletic Club on Monday.
