I can't wait to see Everton supporters at their best - dressing room message should be clear

Everton are at their best when the supporters are behind them and this club is lucky to have such an incredible fanbase. That will be clear again this weekend as Goodison Park once again becomes a symbol of all that is good about this club.

It was therefore disappointing to see the scenes at Euston station after the loss at Tottenham Hotspur. I can understand supporters being frustrated - football is not cheap and Everton were poor on Saturday.

I travel home and away to watch Everton and there have been some difficult journeys back over the past few seasons. This has been a tough start to the season and it comes off the back of some very difficult years.

But incidents like this - even if only a handful of supporters were involved - do not help anyone. They overstepped the line and their actions have attracted the wrong sort of attention to the club.

As a player, moments like this are not easy. You are already embarrassed after a performance and result like that.

And for the club, it can make some things harder - Everton have already had to duck and dive in the transfer window and will want to strengthen if the right opportunities come along in the coming days.

Footage like this can be problematic in that context - there is always a danger an isolated incident that is not reflective of the wider club or fanbase can make Everton look like a toxic place just when you are desperately trying to convince someone to join.

Things like this should not happen and the games against Doncaster Rovers and Bournemouth are good opportunities to show the players that we have faith in them.

The players can also play a role in this. They have a duty to give the supporters something to get behind and this is the time to step up and prove to any doubters or critics that they are wrong.

That is what Richard Gough would be telling me and the rest of the dressing room in such a situation - prove the people who question you wrong.

They will have every ounce of support on Saturday when the Premier League returns for what is now a big game. The 1878s did a brilliant job against Brighton and Hove Albion - the Gwladys Street looked sensational under the sunshine.

They have more big plans for Bournemouth and this will be another emotional afternoon with the tributes that are lined up for Kevin Campbell.

This will be an opportunity for the world to see the true story of the Everton fanbase and there will be no shortage of inspiration from the stands for the players. If they can respond by giving those supporters reason to celebrate then that would be the perfect ending to this frustrating story.
