Former England manager Fabio Capello says Kalidou Koulibaly has surprised him at Chelsea by showing “no personality”.

Koulibaly joined Chelsea from Napoli for £33m in the summer having been linked with a move to the Premier League for much of his career.

The Senegal international was integral to Napoli in his eight seasons with the club and Capello thought he would carry his “personality” with him to Chelsea.

But after Koulibaly helped teh Blues to keep a clean sheet in their 3-0 win over AC Milan on Wednesday, Capello says Koulibaly’s performances for his new club have fallen short of what he expected.

“At Chelsea he has no personality,” Capello told Sky Sports Italy.

“When he has the ball at his feet he hesitates. He is not playing quickly, he does not do what he did at Napoli.

“At Napoli he commanded, he came forward, he made long passes, now he has the ball between his feet, he does not know who to pass it to and he always plays passes to someone only a few metres away.

“Actually, he is surprising me. I thought he had a great personality, and for Chelsea he would be really important and explode straight away. And yet, at this moment, this is not him.”

One blight on an excellent evening for Graham Potter and his side was an injury to Wesley Fofana.

After the £75m summer signing opened the scoring for the Blues at Stamford Bridge he was forced off in the first half with a knee injury.

Fofana looked dejected as he limped from the field, left the stadium on crutches, and Potter admits he is “concerned”.

“We’ll have to scan it tomorrow and see how it is,” Potter said after the game.

“I wouldn’t want to speculate on it now but we’re concerned and hope for the best.

“We’ll support him but we don’t know yet, we’ll get the scan results tomorrow. Fingers crossed. There’s nothing to report at the moment but it was the one disappointing thing of the evening.”
