Capitals' Dowd takes Andrei Svechnikov's stick, throws it into crowd
Andrei Svechnikov has taken a massive step forward with the Carolina Hurricanes in just his second season in the National Hockey League.
Not even halfway through the year yet, the 19-year-old already has more points (38) this year than his rookie campaign (37).
However, nothing seems to go according to plan for the sophomore whenever he battles against the Washington Capitals. Last year during the playoffs, Svechnikov was on the receiving end of a knockout punch from Alexander Ovechkin.
On Friday, Svechnikov had his stick taken away from him and tossed into the crowd courtesy of Capitals forward Nic Dowd.

Dowd received a 10-minute misconduct for throwing Svechnikov’s stick into the stands, but a lucky fan of the Russian winger did receive a pretty nice souvenir because of it.
So the situation wasn’t necessarily bad for all parties involved, it appears.
