The draw for the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup takes place tonight, as the remaining teams discover which sides stand between them and a place in the final.

In Tuesday’s first quarter-final, Championship club Brentford pulled off an upset against Newcastle, eliminating the Premier League outfit with a 1-0 home victory. As such, the Magpies became the fourth top-flight team to fall to the Bees this season. Later in the evening, holders Manchester City – who have won the last three editions of the competition – cruised to a 4-1 win against Arsenal, confirming their label as favourites to go all the way again this term. Wednesday’s early quarter-final then saw Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham see off another Championship side in Stoke City as Spurs’ bid to capture this trophy – their last honour, all the way back in 2008 – continued.

In the last quarter-final, Man United overcame Everton with two late strikes to progress. The semi-finals themselves are due to be held on the week of 4 January, despite the news this week that the final of the tournament has been delayed from late February until the end of April.
