Welcome to cardtracker – keeping a log of every yellow and red card shown in Super League this season.

1. Marc Sneyd (Leigh v Salford, professional foul)

2. Tom Amone (Leigh v Salford, dangerous throw)

On his Super League debut, Amone was shown a yellow card in the very last minute of Leigh’s opening day defeat to Salford for a dangerous tackle. Marc Sneyd subsequently converted a penalty to seal a 20-10 Red Devils win.

3. Morgan Smithies (Hull KR v Wigan, dangerous contact)

The Match Review Panel handed a Grade B charge to Smithies after this match, stating: “A defending player makes contact with an opponent after the ball has been released by an opponent in a vulnerable position which causes flexion to the head, neck or spinal column on an attacking player, which poses an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.”

4. Ryan Brierley (Warrington v Salford, professional foul)

Brierley was shown a yellow card in the second half of Warrington’s come from behind win against Salford, following persistent offending from the visitors at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. The game also featured two eight-point tries.

5. Sione Mata’utia (St Helens v Leeds)

Mata’utia saw yellow for late contact on the passer in St Helens’ defeat against Leeds, and subsequently received a two-match ban from the Match Review Panel.

6. Curtis Sironen (St Helens v Leeds, late contact)

Sironen was handed a one-match ban having been sin-binned in Saints’ defeat to Leeds, for ‘late contact on passer’.

7. Konrad Hurrell (St Helens v Leeds)

Tonga international Hurrell picked up the first red card of the 2023 Super League season in the dying stages of St Helens’ dramatic defeat to Leeds.

Hurrell was scrambling back as Leeds attacked down the left and made contact late on Richie Myler, with the shoulder making contact with Myler’s head.

That prompted Chris Kendall to send off the former Rhinos centre, and from the subsequent penalty, Leeds created field position to win the game with a Blake Austin drop goal.

Sky Sports commentator Jon Wilkin said Myler knew that by staying down the incident would get looked at, and St Helens were left furious that an earlier shoulder charge by Sam Walters hadn’t been punished.

Hurrell was handed a two-match ban for the Grade C charge of reckless.

8. Manu Ma’u (Catalans Dragons)

The former Tonga international was sin-binned for a late hit on Wigan half-back Cade Cust just before half-time.

The Dragons went on to win 18-10 thanks to two tries from Ma’u. It was the first time Catalans had won at the DW Stadium since 2011.

9. Matty Lees (St Helens)

The England international was sent to the sin bin for a swinging arm whilst in a tackle on Leigh full-back Gareth O’Brien in their match at the Leigh Sports Village.

The world champions were stunned by the newly-promoted Leopards, who scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to win 20-12.

10. Edwin Ipape (Warrington v Leigh)

The Papua New Guinean hooker saw yellow in the second half for a tip tackle on Daryl Clark as the Leopards imploded at the Halliwell Jones Stadium

11. Sam Kasiano (Warrington v Leigh)

The game was already in the bag when Kasiano started to get in trouble with referee Ben Thaler, and he was sat down for 10 of the last 11 minutes thanks to perhaps a retribution high hit on Ipape.

12. Tiaki Chan (Catalans v Hull KR)

Catalans forward Tiaki Chan has been sent to the sin-bin against Hull KR in Perpignan. The 22-year-old was sent for a shoulder charge, with just two minutes left of the clash. His side were leading 26-12 at the time.
