Career minor leaguer holds back tears after making Phillies’ roster

Brock Stassi had spent the last six seasons in the minor leagues after being selected in the 33rd round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

Brock Stassi's journeyto the majors is finally complete.

The 27-year-oldfirst baseman held back tears Thursday as he spoke with reporters just minutes after Phillies manager Pete Mackanin informed him hehad securedone of the final spots on the team's 25-man roster.

Stassi, who was selected in the 33rd round of the 2011 MLB Draft, had spent six seasons in the minor leagues before finally being called up for opening day.

"A dream come true," Stassi said emotionally. "I'm going to celebrate tonight, but it's not done. I don't just want to get there, I want to stay there.

"It was always my end goal and I never doubted myself ever."

His younger brotherMax Stassi, who catches for the Astros, also congratulated him on Twitter.

Stassi hit.267/.369/.437 in 117 gameslast seasonwith the Phillies' Triple-A club in Lehigh Valley.
