Richarlison became the subject of further questioning by Jamie Carragher for two incidents during Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

There have been plenty of opinions about Richarlison since (and before) he joined Tottenham from Everton this summer. Carragher has voiced his views on the controversial forward on several occasions.

Towards the back end of last season, while Richarlison was with Everton still, he was part of a public war of words with Carragher. The ex-Liverpool defender criticised how often the 25-year-old goes down. Richarlison responded by claiming he did not respect Carragher.

Since then, though, the Sky Sports pundit has praised how the Brazilian star has been impacting the Tottenham attack. His positive start continued on Sunday with an outside-of-the-boot assist for one of Harry Kane’s goals against Forest.

But there were a couple of flashpoints during the match that prompted a reassessment of Richarlison. First, there was a moment when he was fouled, but took a while to go down to ground.

Carragher reacted on commentary for Sky Sports: “Ah honestly. I’m not getting in trouble with the Tottenham fans as well as the Everton fans.

“He looked like he had been caught between his legs and we know it can be painful but it was so long until he went down.

“Oh what am I going to do with him?”

Elsewhere, once the scoreline seemed secure, there was a moment when Richarlison began juggling the ball on the pitch while in play before being clattered by Brennan Johnson.

Carragher felt the moment was needless and that the resulting challenge was no surprise, even if it was not pretty in itself. (Indeed, Johnson received a yellow card for the foul).

Carragher said: “What’s he doing?

“He’s taken the game away from Nottingham Forest, the game’s won. He just winds people up that lad, he winds me up.

“You’re not condoning that, big Premier League game, passions are high and then someone starts taking the mick.”

All three of Richarlison’s appearances for Tottenham so far have been as a substitute. As his gametime increases, he is bound to deliver further talking points, both good and bad.
