Castleford outside-back hit with five-match ban on dual-registration
Castleford outside-back Elliot Wallis has been hit with a five-match ban for Grade E striking while featuring for Midlands Hurricanes in League 1.
Wallis, 22, played in the side’s 40-6 victory over Cornwall in the opening weekend of the League 1 competition.
He was sent from the field during the second half. The winger later received a Grade E striking charge by the match review panel. And the tribunal have since handed him a five-match ban.
Wallis entered a guilty plea and was also handed a £75 fine.
A former Hull KR winger, Wallis was promoted to Castleford’s first-team squad by head coach Lee Radford ahead of the 2023 season after impressing in the reserves. He received shirt number 26.
Wallis scored twice during the Midlands Hurricanes’ home victory, featuring alongside Castleford team-mates Jason Qareqare, Bailey Dawson and Brad Martin on dual-registration. The former also crossing for a four-pointer.
He also featured in the club’s second round Challenge Cup 50-4 victory over Hull Dockers, scoring a try.
Hull’s Scott Taylor becomes first Super League ban
Prop forward Scott Taylor became the first Super League player to receive a ban following Hull’s 22-18 victory over Leeds last Friday.
He was charged with a Grade C dangerous tackle and received a one-match ban on Monday. He will miss the club’s trip to Catalans this Friday.
In the same fixture, Leeds half-back Blake Austin received a Grade B dangerous contact charge, with no further action taken.
Elsewhere, both Wigan’s Liam Farrell and Wakefield’s Jorge Taufua received Grade B charges for dangerous contacts respectively. The pair have been fined £250 by the match review panel following their match on Friday.
Leigh forward Joe Wardle received a £250 fine for a Grade B striking charge following his side’s defeat to Catalans on Saturday.
Finally, St Helens superstar Jack Welsby also received a Grade A high tackle charge following their victory over Castleford. He received no further action.
