'Caught off guard' - Man City boss Pep Guardiola issues statement after controversial comments
Pep Guardiola has clarified comments made after Manchester City 's 3-3 draw with Feyenoord in the Champions League after saying "I want to harm myself".
Guardiola, 53, made those remarks after answering the final question of his post-match press conference, with which a journalist asked about a noticeable cut on the bridge of his nose. After explaining that the mark came from his fingernail, the City manager remarked about wanting to harm himself before laughing as he got up to leave the room, bidding everyone good night.
The journalist replied, "It'll be OK," as Guardiola departed. Hours after leaving that press conference, the Catalan coach posted a statement to social media on Wednesday morning.

"I was caught off guard with a question at the end of a press conference last night about a scratch which had appeared on my face and explained that a sharp fingernail had accidentally caused this," Guardiola's statement reads.
"My answer was in no way intended to make light of the very serious issue of self harm. I know that many people struggle with mental health issues every day and I would like to take this moment to highlight one of the ways in people can seek help, by calling the Samaritans hotline on 116 123 or emailing jo@samaritans.org."
The initial comments caused controversy on social media amid accusations that they made light of self-harming, which Guardiola has now insisted was not his intention. With his team not playing again until Sunday, when they visit Anfield to play Premier League leaders Liverpool, the City boss was not due to speak publicly again until a scheduled pre-match press conference at Friday lunchtime.
If you're struggling and need to talk, the Samaritans operate a free helpline open 24/7 on 116 123.
