Celtic confirm Ayr United friendly as Hoops to help Scott Brown's side celebrate new stand

Celtic will play Ayr United in a pre-season friendly as the Hoops help Scott Brown's side celebrate their new stand.

The Hoops confirmed the match this morning and it will take place on Friday July 5, with a 7.45pm kick-off. Work on a new £2million stand at Somerset Park began last summer and this match will act as the official unveiling. Images were shared on social media recently as it looks to be ready for the 2024/24 season.

Tickets are already on sale and Brown said: "My current club Ayr take on my former club Celtic. Bring all the colours and noise to help us celebrate the opening of our new stand. We'll see you all there hopefully, thank you very much."

Brown was appointed last season after Lee Bullen was sacked with the Honest Men at danger of relegation from the Championship. But he steadied the ship and steered them away from the bottom place.

The Hoops legend will now have designs on aiming for promotion and the match against his former club will help him to prepare for the campaign ahead. Brown's connection with Celts remains strong and he played yesterday as a legends side took on a Borussia Dortmund team at Parkhead.

He aimed a veiled dig at Rangers star Todd Cantwell, insists Celtic players do their talking on the pitch and get their rewards.
