Celtic legend Aiden McGeady 'retires' after final Scottish football stint
Celtic legend Aiden McGeady has retired from football at the age of 37 after a career featuring stints at clubs such as Everton, Sunderland, and Spartak Moscow.
The Republic of Ireland international won 92 caps for his country and made his senior debut for the Celtic in 2004, as an 18-year-old against Hearts under manager Martin O'Neill, scoring just 17 minutes into his first appearance.
McGeady returned to Scottish football in 2022 when he joined Hibs and then dropped down to the Scottish Championship with Ayr United in what then-manager Lee Bullen described as an "innovative appointment" as player-technical manager. However, the winger left the Honest Men a few weeks ago by "mutual agreement" with the Ayrshire side adding, "would like to thank Aiden for his contribution since joining in July 2023 and wish him the best for his future."

He won a solo awards double at Celtic when he won the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award for the 2007-08 season and the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award for the same campaign.
TalkSport reporter Alex Crook confirmed the news this morning, tweeting: "Former Celtic FC and SAFC midfielder Aiden McGeady has retired from professional football."
