Four of Celtic women's players have been approached about the possibility of being part of the Team GB football squad at next summer's Olympic Games, the Parkhead club have revealed.

The approach to Gemma Fay, Rhonda Jones, Megan Sneddon and Suzanne Grant follows the news that three of Neil Lennon's players - Scott Brown, James Forrest and Adam Matthews - have been contacted about the possibility of playing for the men's team at London 2012.

A Celtic spokesperson said: "Celtic Football Club will be delighted for our four women's team players to take part and we are sure it will be a great honour for them should they elect to take part."

The spokesperson added: "Following on from yesterday's news that three of our first-team players have been approached in relation to taking part, the club would also be delighted for them to be involved.

"But ultimately this would be a decision for all those players concerned and would clearly depend upon Celtic's fixture calendar at the time."

Lennon voiced concerns on Thursday about the possible selection of three of his key players.

He said: "If they want to go I can't stop them. It's the timing of it with the start of the season next year or the (European) qualifiers.

"My view is that football is not an Olympic sport, although it is a great spectating sport. But that is my own view, not the view of the club, but if the players want to go I am not going to discourage it."
