Celtic defender Alistair Johnston has been rewarded for his strong form in a Celtic shirt over the past calendar year - not only with a new contract, but by earning a nomination for the 'Best Defender' in FIFA's Men's 11.

Johnston, who joined Celtic under Ange Postecoglou back in January 2023, waltzed into the Hoops side once he got to grips with Scottish football - and that has seen the Vancouver-born star notch five trophies in his time at Parkhead.

That could become eight by the end of the campaign, with the Hoops sat two points ahead of Aberdeen with a game in hand in the league alongside a huge clash against Rangers in the final of the League Cup next month.

And not only has that seen Johnston rewarded with a new deal, but he's been named alongside some of the best names in football in the defensive nominees.

Euro 2024 and Champions League winner Dani Carvajal, German legend Mats Hummels, Arsenal tough man Gabriel Magalhaes and former Hoops man Jeremie Frimpong have all been nominated amongst others including Ruben Dias, Achraf Hakimi, Alphonso Davies and Aymeric Laporte - so Johnston's level of performances have really been noted.

Elsewhere, Celtic Women's Head Coach, Elena Sadiku has been nominated for the Best Women's Coach award, alongside the likes of Emma Hayes and Gareth Taylor.

Celtic's Women's side claimed their first-ever Premier League title, and have been in the Champions League, strutting it amongst the best this season including Chelsea and Real Madrid.
