Pakistan middle-order batsman Fawad Alam has said that his mother predicted that he would go on to score a century in the second Test at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Before going into the match, Alam spoke with his mother in the morning.

Alam went on to score a brilliant hundred, the fifth in his Test career, which propelled Pakistan to a good total. When he walked out to bat, Pakistan had lost three wickets within the first half an hour, with nothing much to show on the scoreboard.

Fawad Alam had Babar Azam to depend at the other end, and the two combined to stitch a brilliant 166-run partnership which helped Pakistan reach a position of strength at the end of Day 1. Alam, who retired hurt on 75, revealed a conversation with his mother.

Ammi (mother) had called me on the first day of the match, before we left for the ground, at about 8 in the morning, which is 6 (in the evening) there (Pakistan). Ammi just told me that, ‘Go, you will make a century today’. I don’t know if it was my mother’s blessings,” he said.

“My father motivated me, told me to keep performing” – Fawad Alam

Fawad Alam had made his debut early but went out of favor with the side. He was missing for more than ten years, before making a comeback in 2020. Since then, he has been the glue that has held Pakistan’s middle-order together.

Speaking about the tough times, Alam mentioned it was his father who helped him get through life’s ups and downs.

Walid Saab (father) told me to go and raise your bat once in West Indies as well. My motivation and inspiration has been my Walid Saab. He himself was a cricketer.

That makes a lot of difference. Ups and downs happen in everyone’s career. He has gone through that himself. He always motivated me. He told me to keep performing, to do whatever is there in your hands,” Alam added.

At the close of play on Day 3, West Indies was 39/3, 263 runs behind Pakistan’s first innings total of 302/9d.
