Chael Sonnen Joins the Governator on Celebrity Apprentice

Big news! Even though Donald Trump is currently busy trying to become the Republican nominee for president of the United States, “The Celebrity Apprentice” will roll on.

Taking Trump's position as host of the NBC show is former governor of California and former Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger.

So why does this matter to mixed martial arts fans? Because former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen will be joining Schwarzenegger on the show as part of the cast of the eighth season of “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

The full cast, revealed by NBC on Thursday, also features Laila Ali, Brooke Burke-Charvet, Eric Dickerson, Boy George, Matt Iseman, Carrie Keagan, Carson Kressley, Lisa Leslie, Jon Lovitz, Vince Neil, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Kyle Richards, Porsha Williams, Ricky Williams, and Carnie Wilson.

Advisors on the show's eighth season include Warren Buffett, Tyra Banks, Steve Ballmer, and Jessica Alba.

In “The Celebrity Apprentice,” business-savvy celebrity contestants work in teams and are asked to perform various tasks and win challenges, all the while employing a business model that promotes teamwork and, hopefully, ends with a financially successful outcome – all for a worthy charity. Contestants are subjected to long hours, grueling deadlines, intellectual challenges, personality clashes and intense scrutiny. Each task will end in the Boardroom, where contestants must account for their actions or risk being “fired” by the host until one remains.

Past winners include Joan Rivers, Piers Morgan, Bret Michaels, Trace Adkins, Arsenio Hall, John Rich, and Leeza Gibbons.

Sonnen retired from mixed martial arts in June of 2014 amidst dealing with the fallout from multiple positive drug test results related to a potential bout with Wanderlei Silva. He eventually received a two-year suspension for the drug test infractions, but has remained adamant that he will not come out of retirement after his suspension's completion later this year.
