Champions League draw: Who will Chelsea FC face in the group stage today?

Chelsea are out to defend their Champions League crown this season, and today the holders will find out who they will face off against in the group stage.

Thomas Tuchel’s mid-season arrival worked wonders for Roman Abramovich as Chelsea finished in the top four as well as winning the European Cup for the second time in the club’s history.

Chelsea saw off Premier League rivals Manchester City 1-0 in last season’s final, and will be aiming to join the select few clubs who have managed to retain the trophy - and the £97.5million arrival of Romelu Lukaku has sent a message that they will not relinquish it lightly.

With the Champions League group-stage draw set to be held today, here are the potential opponents for Chelsea fans to watch out for in Pots 1-4...

Who can Chelsea face in the Champions League draw?

Pot 1: Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Lille, Sporting Libson (Chelsea, Manchester City)

Chelsea are seeded in Pot 1, so will not face any of the seven other teams.

Pot 2:Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, PSG, Liverpool, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund

Chelsea cannot be drawn against Manchester United or Liverpool given Uefa rules state two teams from the same association cannot face each other at this stage.

That means Chelsea will face one of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG, Sevilla or Dortmund.

Pot 3: FC Porto, Ajax, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Zenit, Benfica, Shakhtar Donestk, Salzburg

Chelsea will be able to face any of the teams from Pot 3.

Pot 4: Club Brugge, Young Boys, AC Milan, Malmo, Wolfsburg, Sheriff, Besiktas, Dynamo Kyiv

Chelsea will be able to face any of the teams from Pot 4.
